Flavor Enhancer, MSG - Bad News?
May 2007 News Letter by Eldore Hanni

There is no need to be a good cook! Just add flavor enhancer, ‘MSG’ ( monosodium glutamate).
It works! It makes all food taste better. But what does it do to our health?

I did an MSG search on the web, and I was very shocked to find many pages of scientific studies regarding negative side effects from using MSG as a flavor enhancer in food. MSG, when added to food, makes that food addictive. All fast food restaurants use MSG liberally, but you won't hear what I’m about to reveal to you on national news, because they are not allowed to insult their advertisers.

MSG could be called ‘Food Nicotine!’. It has been scientifically proven to cause obesity! Since it’s introduction into the American food supply, fifty years ago, MSG has been added, in larger and larger doses, to the prepackaged meals, soups, snacks and fast foods. MSG is in everything! Campbell’s soups, Hostess Doritos, Lay’s flavored potato chips, Top Ramen, Betty Crocker Hamburger Helper, Heinz Gravy, Swanson Frozen meals, Kraft salad dressings, Some food products have hidden MSG under another name like ‘Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein’. Kentucky Fried Chicken seems to be one of the worst offenders. MSG is in every chicken dish, salad dressing and gravy. Their secret spice is MSG.

MSG is an excitotoxin, and while most people can occasionally consume food containing this product, without noticeable side effects, many who are consuming MSG on a regular bases are having very serious side effects, often not knowing the cause. Known side effects are listed as follows; Arrhythmia, numbness, paralysis, seizures, low blood pressure, slurred speech, rapid heart beat, angina, swelling, achiness, joint pain, stiffness, neurological, depression, dizziness, light headedness, loss of balance, disorientation, mental confusion, anxiety, panic attacks, hyperactivity, behavioral problems in children, lethargy, sleepiness, insomnia, migraine headaches, diarrhea, nausea, stomach cramps, irritable bowel, bloating, asthma, shortness of breath, chest pain, tightness, runny nose, sneezing, hives or rash, mouth lesions, tingling of the skin, flushing, dry mouth, swelling of the prostate, nocturia, blurred vision, and difficulty focusing.

Folks, it’s time we go back to cooking our own food as well as buying food products locally from people we can trust. There are some health conscious restaurants popping up in different parts of our country where harmful food additives are not used. We have one here in Selinsgrove, PA by the name of ‘Emma’s Food For Life’.We need to patronize restaurants who care about our health.

We here at Farmstead Fresh Inc., are very dedicated in providing Americans with the purest grass, hay, and sprout fed raw milk cheese possible. The only ingredients added to our cheese products are, cultures, vegetable enzymes, sea salt, plus herbs & spices in two of our products.

For your health, in His service.
